Gift of Choice

A while back I found myself overwhelmed by all the choices I have to make each day, afraid of making the “wrong” choice, and wishing I had but one option to choose from. Later, in a time of prayer and surrendering this dilemma to Father, I realized I had it all wrong. It is Father Himself who has given us choice… As a relational, and even intimate, Gift. And in learning to choose, and embracing each choice WITH Him, we are actively stepping into who He has created us to be, co-choice makers (that is, Those who find joy in choosing WITH Him in anticipation of experiencing Him within each choice). What distinguishes this from a rebellious act, is this is something we do WITH Him, and He WITH us. It is an opening ourselves up to Him fathering us through each choice, and discovering His joy on the other side of each choice made! Like a child given the option of two or more things to do WITH dad. Once the child makes his/her choice, dad embraces that choice WITH the child, and the child enjoys the outcome of that choice WITH dad. With that said, WITH Him there is no more fear in the act of choosing, as He is WITH us attentively and patiently guiding and protecting us through each choice.

By definition “god” means “choice maker.” And when we capitalize “God”, we are specifically referring to the “Most High Choice Maker” (that is, The One Who chooses over all other choice makers). Adam was given, by The Most High Choice Maker, to CHOOSE the names of each animal in the garden. And to mankind it was given to rule (CHOOSE) over the earth. We were created in His image, to be like Him as “co-choice makers” who learn to instinctively and joyously choose in harmony with His greater choice. Where all of us have a tendency to miss the beauty and joy of choice, is when we use it to strive for what Father has not intended for us… When our focus in choice is not first about being, doing and experiencing WITH Him. Simply said, the secret to the greatest joy in the gift of choice, is when we make it all about something we do WITH Him, and He WITH us!
